
In our previous article you have learnt about the functionality of DHCP Server. Now as you know how DHCP Server works it is time to install it. Standard installation of Server 2003 does not include DHCP service . You need to install it separately after installation.
In this article we would install DHCP on Server 2003. Keep Server 2003 CD with you during the installation of DHCP Server.
DHCP Server must have a static ip so first step to configure DHCP Sever is to set a static ip.
Go in lan card properties and set a static ip.

Next step is the installation of DHCP server role. This role could be installed from windows server setup wizard or windows components wizard. I would use both method for demonstration purpose.
To install DHCP from Configure Your Server Wizard :
Click on Start and click on Manage Your Server.

From Manage Your Server window, select Add or Remove a Role.

Configure Your Server Wizard would open. Click on Next after reviewing the list of preliminary steps that should be completed.

Select DHCP server from the list of server roles. Click on Next.

On summary of selections screen Click on Next.

At the end of DHCP server installation process wizard would try to configure the scope. You could configure scope from here or later from DCHP Server console. You would learn about the DHCP scope in our next article. Right now click on cancel.

Click Finish.

Click on Start, and click to Control Panel

and click on Add or Remove Programs.

Click on Add/Remove program. This would launch window component wizards. Select Networking Services from list and click on Details.

Select Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)and click on ok.

Click on Next to continue.

Click on Finish.

To verify DHCP installation Click on Start , Click on administrator tools and check available tools.

If DHCP server has been successful installed it would be appear here as a menu item.
To uninstall DHCP Server follows these simple steps. Click on start button and click on Manage Your Server. From Manage Your Server wizards on Select Role click on DHCP server and click on next.

A summary of selection appear listing the tasks that will be performed. Click Next. Check on Remove the DHCP server role and click on next

wizard will remove DHCP server. Click on Finish

To verify DHCP installation Click on Start , Click on administrator tools and check available tools.

If DHCP server has been successful uninstalled it would be removed from menu item.
